"I want to share the fun, excitement, and joy that I have found in watercolor painting." says Sarasota, Florida, artist and teacher, Maggie Nevens. An Illinois native, Maggie Nevens lived in and around the Chicago area until 1990. It was there that she received her formal art training, which began in high school and continued at Northern Illinois University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with an Art minor and attended the graduate school of Art Education.

Maggie’s art education continued through taking many adult classes and workshops. She credits those generous teachers, most notably, Lou Taylor and Barbara Nechis for encouraging and guiding her artistic development.

Nevens created, developed and implemented a series of watercolor painting classes for adults. "I love to work with people who have never picked up a brush and show them how to make a painting of which they can be proud. We experiment with technique and sometimes literally play with the paint."

Maggie’s lively classes have gone to sea aboard Celebrity, Princess and Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Her Sarasota, Florida classes continue at Blue Line Supply, and as community outreach teacher for Art Center Sarasota. Previously, Maggie taught art in the public schools in Chicago, Illinois, suburbs and Central Florida Community College, Ocala, Florida. She conducted watercolor workshops at Art Center Sarasota, and Hilton Leech Friends of the Arts and Science Studio, Sarasota, Florida.

Maggie Nevens illustrated a workbook for teachers and has completed illustrations for a children's book awaiting publication. She exhibits regularly in juried and invitational shows. Her works are represented by Studio 53, Sarasota, FL and Fancy Free Gallery, Bradenton, FL. They are also in public, corporate and private collections throughout the country.
