"Farewell" Message from the Prez ~ Barbara Colangelo

It has been an honor to serve as president of WCA for the past five years.  My resignation is bittersweet (just like my favorite chocolate) but I hope to remain an integral part of the running of our organization.  I have every confidence that the Committee Heads will be efficient with each of their committees. There will be no change in the professionalism and wonder of WCA.

Thanks so much to the members who attended our most important event on April 19th to honor our Student Award recipients and also to honor me with an ever so dramatic tribute by Sally Sloan and a heartfelt and thoughtful gift certificate from all.  I was overwhelmed but I want to now thank the executive Board who worked right along with me to bring WCA to great heights and have also resigned their Board positions.  Sally Sloan-Vice President, Trish Robbins-Secretary, and my chief advisors Judy Lyons Schneider and Eleanor Merritt.  Donna and Bernice are staying on in their positions. Also thanks to the Committee Heads who are remaining in place to help keep WCA what it is today.  Together, as a group, we will protect the integrity and effort that has been ongoing for the past years.

As we move forward, I hope to see a lot of you all and I hope you plan to participate in the WCA exhibitions and events.  The Committees work hard for the membership, volunteering precious time.  You can help:

Send press releases about you or ones that you see to Genevieve Perkins.

Enter the planned exhibitions.

Send your newsletter news to Kris Parins.

Attend the WCA awards event in the spring and the holiday party in December. These are two major events within our organization.  Call someone if you need a ride.

Come to the Lunch Bunch whenever you can to be with your fellow artists ... always inspiring.

Check the website often for any and all info you may need.

You are all an important part of WCA which makes it the largest and best (we think so) in the area. You make it what it is!

Attendance at receptions:  Although it is not possible to attend every member's reception, we like to think that you will make an effort to attend all you can, in the spirit of WCA.  It is also necessary that you attend WCA receptions, whether or not you are in the show.

Delivering and picking up artwork for exhibitions:  It is mandatory that you or a representative for you be present at receiving and pick up. Often there are questions that need answering.  With one or two exhibitions annually, it should not be a burden.

EXHIBITION NEWS:

"PROJECT 4 X 6" at Manatee Community College

Women Contemporary Artists 2009 Exhibition Project 4 x 6 was planned as an exercise in small works.  This show is very different for the organization with "out of the box" thinking, presenting a challenge to the members to create and explore the possibilities of any media on a 4 x 6 inch canvas.  The artists' own styles applied to the canvases will produce a show that is uniform in size but not in artistic diversity.
