Shark’s Eye Shell
Acrylic on Canvas 11 X 14
Art has been a part of my life since I was
very small. My parents always supported my
interest in the arts and painting, and at
the age of 12 they encouraged me to start
serious art classes in a children’s program
at the Silvermine Guild of Art. At that
time I settled on oil painting and
concentrated on still life for many years.
After I completed college and started a
family, I studied portrait and figure work
using pastels with Elmer Taflinger, a noted
artist in Indianapolis. Later, lessons from
William Ashby, a portrait and seascape
painter, led to more classes at John Herron
Art Institute and Purdue Continuing
Education.
Over the years, I primarily focused on
perfecting my painting techniques, both in
watercolor and acrylic. I enjoy acrylic
because the drying time is quick; you can
make changes right away; the colors can be
kept clean; and, with the different mediums,
edges can be controlled.
My work has been sold at art shows and
exhibitions. However, I continue to explore
opportunities that will help me find a style
that best expresses who I am.
