Sylva spends seven months in
the Sarasota, FL area and
five months in the Hudson Valley, NY area

My two homes have instilled in me a love of both mountains and seashore.

I am currently immersed in landscape painting in pastel and I work

‘en plein aire’ which allows me to become a part of nature which has always inspired me.  Often I will do quick sketches out of doors, take reference photos and then let my imagination influence the outcome as I complete the work in my studio.

My art has been a reflection of my dance throughout life.  Early in life I worked in oils and for years sculpture in clay and bronze satisfied my sense of “the dance.”  Now I find that color and light beckon me to work in pastel.  Always my work has been a form of meditation and a source of peace.

EDUCATION: BS NYU early Educ. Primarily self taught in the field of art.

OCCASIONAL WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES have been a stimulation.

APPRENTICESHIP for 10 years in the studio of FRANK COLSON. This is where I learned techniques of handling clay and bronze including casting.

ONE PERSON SHOWS in galleries in Woodstock, Kingston and Saugerties, NY. and Sarasota, FL. (refer to Sylva’s Web Bio for further details).

Paintings are in private collections in Mexico, France and the USA

RECENT AWARDS: include First Prize pastel and Best of Show at Twilight Park annual shows and First Prize Sculpture and ceramics in prior years.  Juried into an Arts Calendar and  Purchase Prize in Albany Museum of History and Art.  Second Prize pastel Longboat Key Art Center (Pui L’Eveque II shown here).
