I started working in clay over 30 years ago when I lived in Long Island. My life was just one big boring treadmill of work, and taking care of the home and children. I thought, 'what am I doing with my life?' I saw an ad for a night class in clay at the local university. I didn't know anything about it, but thought...why not. My teacher talked me into entering a piece in a student show. It took first place. That really gave me the confidence that there was something there--that I was good at something.

I loved clay immediately. I had always loved to work with my hands--baking, cooking--and this was an immediate extension of that. Clay is more tactile & sensual than the other art forms. More physical.
