2008 WCA
SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION/OBJECTIVES/PLAN
Women Contemporary Artists (WCA) annually
grants four substantial cash awards to female students who are fine art
artists and art majors in their respective schools. This major study
'title' allows for students that are majoring in graphic arts or other
disciplines to support their 'true' major of fine art. Posters will be
put up at the art colleges to notify students and instructors at Manatee
Community College's north and south campuses, New College and The
Ringling School of Art and Design that WCA Scholarships will be awarded
in the late spring to the two top women art students completing their
sophomore or junior years, who not only present extraordinary talent but
the commitment and dedication to continue their academic focus in the
arts and the study of studio fine arts,
and where knowledge of financial need is
known by an instructor.

November .07...Posters
will be hung in all 4 colleges on bulletin boards for students and
instructors before Thanksgiving.
....Applications will be posted on line @
the WCA site for both students and instructors to consider.
December.07... 1st
mailing Letters of notice will be sent to all instructors in the 4
colleges to give them notice of the Scholarships and the new dates,
deadlines and application structure.
January ..08...2nd

February

Everything must be turned in to WCA!

(Scholarship Committee handles with WCA Board of Directors oversite)

Note a 2008 change…. As of this year
students can begin the application process themselves; putting together
the application and their artworks and going with that to find an
instructor to sign the for them.
In addition to the substantial cash grant
of $1500. the awardees are given: A free annual membership in WCA. This
membership includes:
*the content filled monthly newsletter
offering art opportunities and resources available throughout our
region.
*complementary exhibition submission fees
to participate in all of the organization's exhibitions
*participation in the organization's
monthly programs and critiques
*mentoring opportunities from some of our
many seasoned member artists
*endless opportunities to be encouraged
and promoted
The awards are to be presented at WCA's
annual End- of- Year- Party late in April where
the Awardees will be expected to present
their entry portfolios and a two minute chat about their attitudes
towards their art to the membership. The Awardees are encouraged to
bring their instructors and are welcome to bring a family member to this
event.
The objective of this program is to
inspire and help support female art students who want to maintain fine
art as their focus and to encourage collaborative interaction between
our regional academic organizations and the local art community. It is a
major goodwill outreach into the community at large for WCA.
